It’s All About Control -
Fitting an intelligent (self learning) heating controller may save you up to 25% off your heating bills.
How do they work ?
Most heating systems are set to turn on and off at certain times regardless of the weather, aspect of the building or the number of people in the office.
Self learning controllers learn the thermal footprint of the building and do all the work. These controllers work out the best time to switch the system on and off and allow for multiple set points throughout the day.
Cycle Reduction –
Boilers must run a purge cycle at the start of each on-cycle to assure that there is no accumulation of explosive gases in the fire box. By law, enough air must be blown through the boiler to perform a 4x air exchange of the fire box. This cold air also removes heat from the boiler. Flames tend to be the most unstable and radiation heat transfer is at its lowest at start-up. Therefore, boilers are the least efficient at the start of the on-cycle. Reducing the number of on-cycles should therefore increase boiler efficiency over a longer period of operating time.
It is widely acknowledged that cycle reduction reduces fuel consumption by up to 20%. The techniques used to reduce cycle times vary depending on the exact type of boiler you have.
One of our experienced heating engineers will be able to advise you on the best approach.
It May Be Time To Throw it Out –
Boiler technology has moved on hugely in the last 5 years.
With the advent of condensing boilers which contain secondary heat exchangers to gather the heat which would normally disappear up the chimney, boilers can now be 40% more efficient than boilers that were installed a mere 5 years ago.
Control systems in modern boilers are also much more efficient than previous models.
You may be surprised at how quick the return on investment could be by simply purchasing a new boiler system!
